What has changed that buyers should account for in October 2026?
Last updated

Older comparisons can now misstate both native reporting and product packaging. Three developments materially affect procurement.
| Development | Verified evidence | Buyer implication |
|---|---|---|
| Google now documents dedicated generative-AI reporting | Search Console’s help page says its generative AI performance insights rolled out to all websites worldwide by 31 August 2026; the report covers impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, although low-impression sites may not see it. | Inspect native evidence before paying a supplier to answer the same narrow question. (support.google.com) |
| Microsoft provides native AI citation reporting | Bing announced AI Performance on 10 February 2026, covering citation activity across supported Microsoft and partner experiences. | Add it to your baseline, while retaining its platform and metric boundaries. (blogs.bing.com) |
| An industry measurement framework now exists | IAB published Measuring Visibility in the AI Era on 3 August 2026. | Ask providers to explain their measurement quality and disclosures against a common reference, rather than accepting an unexplained score. (iab.com) |
Documentation caution: Google’s older AI-features page still describes AI-feature traffic within the general Web performance report. The newer dedicated-report documentation is the relevant source for the separate generative-AI impressions capability. Do not repeat the older claim that there is no dedicated reporting without checking current documentation. (developers.google.com)
