15. Which GEO tactics have credible evidence, and how long do results take?

Distinguish documented access requirements from experimental optimisation hypotheses. A supplier should explain what its evidence establishes, under which conditions, and what remains unproven.
The July 2026 critical survey of GEO research found that effects on already-retrieved content do not establish durable improvements in organic discovery or downstream behaviour. This is a useful warning about transferring laboratory or narrow experimental results directly into commercial guarantees; it is not proof that all optimisation work is ineffective. (arxiv.org)
Use this evidence ladder:
| Evidence offered | What it can reasonably support |
|---|---|
| Platform documentation | A documented requirement or supported control |
| Reproducible access test | A technical problem and its resolution |
| Before-and-after screenshots | An observed difference, with substantial limitations |
| Fixed-sample repeated benchmark | A better estimate of changed visibility |
| Comparison-group experiment | Stronger evidence, subject to design and interference limits |
| Commercial outcome analysis | Evidence about business results, not automatically causation |
There is no universal deadline in the sources reviewed for winning recommendations. Google notes that recrawling can take from days to months depending on the page and its systems. (developers.google.com)
Use a 90-day pilot as a management checkpoint, not a promise that every source will refresh or every intervention will have a measurable effect within that period.
