14. Does digital PR or getting onto SaaS review sites improve AI visibility?
Last updated

External coverage can be relevant evidence, but a recurring citation pattern does not prove that buying PR will increase recommendations. Investigate the sources cited for your category and question types before choosing a campaign.
Muck Rack’s May 2026 study reported that 84% of citations in its sample fell into its earned-media classification. Its methodology deliberately focuses on unbranded exploration rather than branded transactional prompts, making the prompt mix important to interpretation. (muckrack.com)
The classification is broader than journalism: Muck Rack’s October explanation includes Wikipedia and mentions in other companies’ content. The headline therefore should not be translated into “84% of citations can be won through press coverage”. (muckrack.com)
Our recommended sequence is:
- Map the actual cited pages in your buying-question sample.
- Distinguish factual product listings from comparative editorial assessments.
- Correct inaccurate profiles through legitimate processes.
- Identify useful evidence an independent writer would reasonably want.
- Evaluate PR on editorial relevance, evidence quality and business value—not promised AI citations.
Do not fabricate reviews, pose as customers or conceal commercial relationships. FTC guidance addresses fake consumer reviews, sentiment-conditioned incentives and material connections in endorsements. (ftc.gov)
