13. Do we need llms.txt, special schema or FAQ markup for AI search visibility?
Last updated

Do not buy these as guaranteed inclusion mechanisms. Google explicitly says its Search systems do not use llms.txt for visibility or rankings, and its AI-features documentation does not require special schema.org markup. (developers.google.com)
Google’s current optimisation guide also rejects a universal need to divide content into tiny chunks. Our editorial recommendation is simpler: use headings, tables and concise answers when they help the reader, without claiming that a particular paragraph length unlocks citations. There is an important publication update for this FAQ hub: Google’s documentation changelog says FAQ rich results stopped appearing from 7 May 2026. Do not justify FAQ production or structured-data work by promising that former Search presentation. (developers.google.com)
Ask anyone proposing an implementation:
- Which specific platform consumes this file or markup?
- Is it required, supported or merely hypothesised to help?
- What user-facing information will improve?
- How will correctness and maintenance be checked?
- What result would disprove the supplier’s claim?
Maintain machine-readable resources where there is a documented consumer or operational benefit. Do not confuse that benefit with a verified cross-engine ranking effect.
