4. How do we track brand visibility in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?
Last updated

Combine Search Console’s first-party generative AI impression reporting with a separate answer-level benchmark. The former measures appearances of your pages; the latter is needed to inspect how your brand is described or recommended.
Google announced dedicated Search Generative AI performance reports on 3 June 2026 and subsequently stated that the insights had rolled out worldwide by 31 August 2026. Guidance saying that Google provides only an undifferentiated Web report is therefore incomplete for this research date. (developers.google.com)
Google’s current help documentation says the Search report includes organic impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, with page, country and device analysis. A report may not appear where a site has insufficient impressions; Search Labs experiments are excluded. (support.google.com)
Recommended workflow:
- Export a baseline for your important product, comparison and educational pages.
- Filter to the US where that matches your market.
- Keep AI Overviews and AI Mode distinct in your external answer collection.
- Record whether an AI Overview appeared at all.
- Compare changes with publishing dates and technical changes, without assigning causation automatically.
Also check the Search generative AI control in Search Console. Google documents inclusion and exclusion settings, including inherited settings from parent properties. An unintended exclusion is a different problem from weak content. (support.google.com)
