5. Can we measure Microsoft Copilot visibility without buying another tool?
Last updated

Bing Webmaster Tools provides first-party citation reporting that is worth checking before purchasing overlapping monitoring. It does not replace a benchmark of recommendations, factual accuracy or competitor treatment.
Microsoft’s AI Performance documentation covers Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated Bing summaries and selected partner integrations. It reports citation activity, cited pages and grounding queries, but explicitly describes the data as aggregated and sampled—not a complete log of every answer. (bing.com)
Use it to investigate:
- Which owned pages are being cited.
- Whether citation activity is concentrated in commercially useful topics.
- Which grounding-query themes deserve closer inspection.
- Whether important product pages are missing while general educational pages appear.
Do not relabel a grounding query as an exact customer prompt. Microsoft says these phrases describe retrieval activity and that the dashboard does not expose individual answers or the reason a page was referenced. (bing.com)
Our buying recommendation is to establish what this first-party evidence already answers, then pay for additional capabilities only where a specific question remains unresolved—for example, whether your product is recommended alongside named rivals.
