What should you check before paying for monitoring in October 2026?

Review the first-party information already available to you before purchasing overlapping reporting. The following developments are relevant to scope, not evidence that specialist monitoring is unnecessary.

  • Google reporting has changed. Google announced dedicated generative AI performance reports on 3 June 2026 and subsequently stated that rollout reached websites worldwide on 31 August 2026. The Search report covers impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode; Google says it may not appear when a site has insufficient impressions. Do not interpret an unavailable report as proof of zero brand visibility. (developers.google.com)
  • Microsoft provides citation reporting. Bing’s AI Performance reporting covers citations across Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI-generated summaries and selected partner integrations. Microsoft explicitly distinguishes citation counts from ranking or placement. Its 13 October 2026 Topics Portfolio beta adds thematic and opportunity views, but labels the figures directional and notes that insufficient data can prevent topics or the feature from appearing. Procurement implication: Ask a prospective supplier to demonstrate the additional decision value it provides—such as controlled prompt observations, competitor answer evidence or implementation support—rather than simply reproducing a metric you already have.
